CALERA, Ala. (WIAT) — A murder case in Calera has caught the attention of the community.

The victim was a 42-year-old suburban wife and mom, who also spent time as an adult-themed model on her subscription-based website. Tonight, the homicide investigation is ongoing.

Something went wrong in Kathleen West’s life late Friday night into Saturday morning, when her body was discovered by a neighbor on the way to work

“It’s shocking that it happened so close to home, so all you can do is worry and think about your family, and that’s all I’ve been doing,” said Xavier Lee.

Calera Police tell us they aren’t able to release any information about the case because they don’t want to risk interfering with the investigation. But neighbors keep thinking about family, especially the one that lost their mom.

“That’s the sad thing about it,” a neighbor told CBS 42 News. “You’ve got a little girl that’s not gonna have her mother anymore.”

Lee feels the same way.

“This child doesn’t have their mother anymore, don’t know why, don’t know what happened, that led up to the incident, but to wake up to that news, it makes you think,” Lee said.

The case of the mom’s murder is still open, and there is no one in custody at this time.

Neighbors tell CBS 42 News that detectives are still going door to door asking if anyone recalls anything that happened last Friday between 8:00 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Saturday.
