More than twenty people have been displaced following an apartment fire that happened late Wednesday night.
According to Chief Decimus Williamson with Birmingham Fire, the call of the fire came in around 11 p.m. Firefighters responded to the 2800 block of 7th Place NW. They found fire and smoke showing in two of the apartments when they arrived. It had already spread to the common attic space.
All 16 units of the apartment were evacuated. Six units in the building have fire damage and an addition six to eight units have water and smoke damage.
The American Red Cross has been called in to help the twenty-one residents who have been displaced. Officials tell CBS 42 that number could grow as residents arrive home.
No one was injured during the fire.
Centerpoint Fire was called in for assistance with the fire. Fire crews had to be rotated due to the heat.
This fire is still under investigation.
