Mayor Bell and Councilman Lundy embrace at press conference

Local News

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Two days after the “City Hall Brawl” between Mayor William Bell and Councilman Marcus Lundy, both accompanied by ten members of clergy spoke to the media in an effort of healing for the city.

Bell appeared to be physically and verbally okay after reports said that he had multiple injuries including crushed vocal chords. Lundy stood to the mayor’s right and expressed repeated apologies and forgiveness from the city of Birmingham for he and the mayor’s behavior.

The mayor vowed that an incident such as the fight that occurred Tuesday would never happen again in council chambers and also expressed forgiveness as they try to move the city forward.

Councilman Lundy and Mayor Bell hugged each other before leaving the press conference leaving the pastors to answer questions from the media.

Among the questions were ones asked about the non-example this sets for young people and residents as a whole in the Magic City. Pastor Dr. T.L. Lewis of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Pratt City responded, “we all sin, we are all human and we must forgive.”

Wednesday night Mayor Bell recalled the warrant that was issued for Councilman Lundy’s arrest, calling it an “act of good faith.”
