BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) –You have a chance to enjoy a unique event in the city of Birmingham. Marlowe Shepherd and The Abraham Becker Orchestra will hold a one-night-only performance at the Lyric Theatre on Thursday, September 19.
The duo is expected to perform alongside a 21-member ensemble including an 8-piece string section and an 8-piece brass and reed section. Marlowe Shepherd and The Abraham Becker Orchestra is comprised of a unique blend of educators and experts from throughout the state and the greater South.
“I believe in Birmingham’s cultural diversity and potential,” says Shepherd. “I’ve played in New York, Los Angeles, Memphis and other incredible music cities, but it’s that potential that is the reason we’ve chosen to stay and start this in Birmingham.”
Organizers say the evening will feature classic and contemporary big swing music. It will feature several original works from the two. In addition, they will feature well-known charts from the likes of Gershwin, Porter, Rogers Hammerstein and more.
