Arrest made in murder of 20-year-old shot in the face near Birmingham gas station

UPDATE: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two arrests have been made in connection to the murder of 20 year-old Dentarius Maurice Jackson.

Birmingham resident Roderick Lynn Patterson, 23, was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder and remains in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Devon Perkins-Jones, 20 and also from Birmingham, was arrested on the same charges and has since bonded out of Jefferson County Jail.

During the homicide investigation, detectives learned that prior to Jackson being shot, a victim in a separate vehicle was hit by gunfire, and police believe Jackson’s fatal injury resulted from the initial victim returning fire.

Both Patterson and Perkins-Jones were detained at the scene and interviewed at the Birmingham Police department Headquarters.

UPDATE: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office have identified the victim who was shot and killed near a Birmingham gas station late Monday.

Dentarius Maurice Jackson, 20, was shot in the face near the Chevron gas station next to the Roebuck Golf Course in Birmingham Monday night.

Jackson was transported to UAB Hospital just before midnight Monday, but later died from his injuries the next day

Two people were taken in for questioning. Police believe this incident may be related to an earlier shooting in Sunrise.

ORIGINAL: Police are investigating an incident that occurred late Monday night that sent a man to the hospital after being shot in the face.

According to authorities, a man was shot in the face near the Chevron gas station on 1st Avenue North next to the Roebuck Golf Course in Birmingham late Monday night.

Two people were taken in for questioning. Police believe this incident may be related to an earlier shooting in Sunrise.
