BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — An arrest has been made in a case where a 48-year-old man was found dead Sunday morning.

Daniel Cook was found shot dead inside a home in the 900 block of 10th Street Southwest. Officers with Birmingham Police say that the victim’s family members came to the location after not hearing from him. They forced entry into the home and found him suffering from a gunshot wound, prompting them to call police.

West Precinct officers were dispatched around 10:50 a.m. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived shortly after and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Joseph Edwards, 42, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with murder. Police say that Edwards is the brother-in-law of Cook. He is being held at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on a $1.5 million bond.

BPD says the motive in this case “appears to be domestic in nature.”
