GLENCOE, Ala. (WIAT) — The life of the Greene family made a sudden turn when their daughter was diagnosed with childhood cancer in December 2018, but Magic Moments helped bring a smile to their faces with a heartwarming surprise trip.
Rozlyn Greene, who started fourth grade this year, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in December 2018. Since then, her family has decided to end treatment and rely on their faith to overcome the sickness.
Monday, Magic Moments surprised Rozlyn with big news.
Family and friends in the Glencoe community gathered at North Glencoe Baptist Church to help send her off on a surprise trip to Disney World, courtesy of Magic Moments in Alabama.
“It means the world to me for my family, for Rozlyn, for my sister,” Rozlyn’s Aunt, Harmony Pike, said. “It’s really great to have that much support.”
Everyone wore shirts in support of the fight against childhood cancer and shirts that read #RozlynStrong. And her favorite team’s mascot, Aubie, delivered the good news in a video that played on the projector screen at the church.
“The love that people have shown her is amazing,” Bill Greene, Rozlyn’s grandfather, said. “But then I don’t expect anything else from Glencoe people. That’s just the way they are.”
Magic Moments is a wish-granting organization devoted to providing happiness to children with chronic life-threatening illnesses.
The State-wide Coordinator for Magic Moments, Kaitlin Candeleria, said the send-off was unlike any other moment they have provided.
“To see a community come together like this for Rozlyn, it’s just so incredibly rare and special,” Candeleria said. “It is so heartwarming to see the support system this family is surrounded by.”
Rozlyn and her family take off to the magical world of Disney on Tuesday, August 28.
