BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Local filmmakers are gearing up to premiere “Home Invasion” at Boutwell Auditorium Sunday night. The action-packed feature film was shot entirely in Birmingham and Bessemer. The cast and crew is excited to debut the movie following a red carpet event this weekend.
Turner Custom Films CEO, owner, and founder Dedric Turner encourages other local filmmakers to follow their dreams.
“If you’re a filmmaker here, film in Birmingham,” said Turner. “Don’t let anything stop you. Cause if you can do it, you can do it. There were obstacles in my life that said that I wasn’t going to be able to do it. But I pushed.”
The stars of the movie, E.J. Maiden and Tasha Houston, said it was a dream to film in the communities they call home.
“I am excited, but at the same time a little bit nervous,” said Houston. “This is my first, but I’m excited for the most part. I have a lot of people supporting me and like ‘girl, you got this, it’s good. Nobody’s doing that here.”
Maiden, on the other hand, has years of experience as an actor. He said making a movie in his hometown was an especially meaningful filming process.
“Awh man, I’m just glad I, you know, decided to go and stick with it. Like I said, I’ve been acting since probably like 1999, you know I got to be in this movie ‘Remember the Titans,’ and after that I’m like I’m not giving up.”
The red carpet event for “Home Invasion” begins at 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The premiere begins at 6:45 p.m. For more information on the event and where to buy tickets, click here.
