Local chef competing in MADE SOUTH’s “Great Slider Showdown” this weekend

UPDATE 6/30/18: Local Birmingham chef Matthew Statham from Sawn’s Soul Kitchen won the Great Slider Showdown with his Sweet Tea Chicken. 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — This weekend, Birmingham will be well represented in Tennessee during The Great Slider Showdown! Saw’s Soul Kitchen Chef Matthew Statham is one of ten competitors.

The Great Slider Showdown brings together ten talented chefs from all over the South to create delicious sliders for the crowd. The winning chef will take home the Golden’s Slider Prize as well as $3000, a brand new Golden’s Cast Iron Cooker, and automatic entry into the 2018 World Chef Challenge.

Chef Statham will compete alongside Crystal McKone of Old Town Stock House in Guntersville, Alabama, Kevin Ashworth of 610 Magnolia in Louisville, Kentucky, Jason Greer of SideTrack in Chattanooga, Tennessee and John Williams of Fred’s Meat & Bread in Atlanta, Georgia.

Guest judges for the day include creator of Good Eats and Cutthroat Kitchen host Alton Brown, chef and Chopped judge Maneet Chauhan, Southern Living Magazine‘s Robby Melvin and Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Tricia Sereno. 

The Great Slider Showdown benefits GraceWorks, Williamson County, Tennessee’s nonprofit community resource center. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free with a paying adult. All admission tickets come with the appropriate number of slider tickets (8 with general admission and 12 with VIP.) Slider tickets can be used for anyone you choose.
