BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Boxing-inspired workouts are all the rage in the fitness community. In this week’s Living Well with Michelle, Michelle went inside Homewood’s newest boxing-inspired, group fitness gym: Battle Republic.
Battle Republic co-owner Leah Drury said it’s a great way to keep your workouts interesting.
“It’s something that’s not like anything else around The South,” said Drury. “It’s something that keeps things fun and exciting. It’s a killer workout, sick beats, and it’s intense.”
Battle Republic gym-goers said they keep coming back because it’s a workout as much about finding your inner strength as it is getting physically fit. Samford University athlete Morgan Hutchinson said she felt empowered and confident walking out of the class.
“It just really helped me, like the mental game,” said Hutchinson. “Cause I run track at Samford and like, it’s all about mental toughness.”
Battle Republic co-owner Luan Nguyen wants these classes to help people get comfortable with living a healthy lifestyle.
“It’s just so important to me that people understand this thing that people call fitness,” said Nguyen. “I think out there can be a lot of intimidating issues, a lot of confusion, so if we can break down those barriers and teach people – they can make it part of their lifestyle and can influence others.”
