Over 600 weapons removed from G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — More than 300 members of law enforcement conducted a search for illegal contraband at the G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility Monday.

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, 621 makeshift weapons, 51 cellphones, 240 grams of synthetic drugs and seven gallons of an alcoholic beverage referred to as julep or pruno were recovered in the search.

The search lasted 10 hours and the entire facility was checked, according to the press release.

More than 1,230 inmates are housed in the facility.
