BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The executive director of the Jimmie Hale Mission announced his upcoming retirement Friday, May 10.

It’s the end of an era as Tony Cooper, the executive director at Jimmie Hale, announces his retirement. Under his leadership, the Jimmie Hale Mission has grown to be one of the most recognized nonprofit organizations in Central Alabama.

Cooper has been with the organization for 29 years. Since his arrival, the Mission has grown to include recovery programs, learning centers for education remediation and career readiness, the relocation and expansion of its downtown men’s campus, fundraising enterprises, Bible clubs for public elementary school children and a shelter for homeless women and children called Jessie’s Place.

At this time, a new executive director has not been selected. The search is still in the early stages.
