Jiménez ties course record to lead Tradition after first round

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — After firing a 30 on the front nine, Miguel Ángel Jiménez tied the Greystone Founders Course record with an 8-under 64 Thursday to take the lead at the Regions Tradition.

Jiménez leads the rest of the field by two strokes. Four golfers are tied for second at 6-under: Gene Sauers, Wes Short, Jr., Jerry Kerry and Joe Durant. Former Alabama golfer Jerry Pate is tied for fifth at 5-under.

Jiménez’s round ties rounds in 2017 by Bernhard Langer and 2016 by Kenny Perry for the best at the Founders Course. Langer would win the tournament last year after firing off a 64.

Round two will begin Friday with another two tee start at 7:45 a.m. in hopes of beating the weather once again.
