BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is offering a new way for the public to communicate with the police. Starting Monday, residents will have access to a new safety app available for download on Apple and Android devices.
The app gives users the opportunity to access sex offender addresses and inmate info. You can also apply for pistol permits.
Users also can sign up for notifications, which authorities use to let residents know about traffic problems, active shooters or other pertinent information.
“This app is here to help the Sheriff’s Office stay in touch with the community,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said. “We want to make sure that we get important information out to the community and give the community to engage with us by submitting information to us in which we can better serve the community.”
Users also can provide crime tips to the police to help them solve crimes.
