PINSON, Ala. (WIAT) – If you have fines at a library in Jefferson County, you can get them reduced this month by donating certain food items.
The program is called Food for Fines, and all public libraries in Jefferson County are participating. For every non-perishable food item you donate, you can get one dollar in overdue fines waives. The money goes toward charities throughout the county.
“Each library has the opportunity to choose who that food, that donated food, goes back to,” Pinson Public Library director Allison Scanlan said. “So it goes back right into our communities, our local communities, so a lot of people just bring in food just to help, as well.”
Each person can get up to $10 waived. The program started Monday and runs throughout the month of September.
