JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Jefferson County deputy has been charged with a DUI after a single-vehicle crash last Wednesday on I-20.

He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The following investigation revealed the Madsen was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his vehicle.

Captain David Agee with the sheriff’s offices tells us Madsen was on family leave at the time of the wreck and is still currently on leave. When he returns from leave, he will be reassigned and removed from service and contact with the public.

Agee says disciplinary actions will be determined once they have the final outcome of the investigation.

Deputy Dakota Madsen was booked into the Jefferson County jail on Monday evening and was released less than an hour later after posting at $300 bond.
