BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two days after flames engulfed an abandoned Birmingham motel and spread to nearby businesses, the building burned in another intentional fire.

Birmingham Fire crews arrived on scene at the old Hospitality Inn around 1:15 p.m., battling high winds as they worked to contain the blaze. Battalion Chief Sebastian Carillo says the part of the building that caught fire Thursday was not involved in Tuesday’s fire.

While the fire has been contained, citizens are urged to avoid the area.
