Honoring Atlanta Mayor Lance Bottoms, Alabama Poor People Campaign and more coming this weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —   CBS 42 Morning News Anchor Art Franklin has three events YOU need to know for this weekend. 

Happening today, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is being honored here in the Magic City. Mayor Bottoms is among several graduates of Florida A&M University (FAMU) receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award at the Hyatt Regency Wynfrey Hotel.  Hundreds of FAMU alumni will be in attendance including the university president Dr. Larry Robinson.

The black-tie gala begins at 6:30 p.m tonight (Friday).

Happening tomorrow, the Alabama Poor People’s campaign is holding a bus tour in Birmingham. The Truth and Poverty tour begins at 9:30 a.m. in the morning at the Greater Birmingham ministries on 12th Avenue North.

Elected officials, clergy and advocates are expected to visit several neighborhoods. “A moral revival,” the event is open to the public.


And happening on Sunday, CBS 42 Morning News Anchor Art Franklin will be hosting the 9th Annual Cornelius Bennett Golf Pairing Party. It will be at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame beginning at 5 p.m.

A long list of celebrity NFL, NBA players, college stars and coaches will join the former University of Alabama and Buffalo Bills star player Cornelius Bennett.

 His golf tournament will be on Monday at Greystone Golf and Country Club, benefits will go toward Children’s Village, a home for abused, abandoned and neglected children.
