Homicide investigation underway in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation that occurred around 12:30 in the morning on Saturday, July 27.

Officers from the East Precinct were responding to a Shot Spotter call in the 7800 block of 6th Ave. North. While responding to the call, the officers received information that a person was shot at that location, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police Department.

The victim suffered from an apparent gunshot wound. The Jefferson County Coroner pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Citizens in the area reported hearing gunfire just before the victim was located.

There are no suspects in custody and the victim’s name will not be released until their family has been notified.
