HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — The first black police officer to be hired by Homewood Police Department died Wednesday.
Retired Officer Jessie Mack passed away at 75 following a battle with cancer, Homewood Police Sgt. John Carr confirms.
Officer Mack worked as a patrol and warrant officer from December 4, 1974 until October 31, 2006. He rejoined the department in 2011, serving as a bailiff for the Homewood Municipal Court until his death.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
