(WIAT) — Sunday night, the USA Women’s National Soccer Team beat Japan in the World Cup. Millions across the world were watching, and so was one of the player’s relatives who lives in Bibb County.
Billie Jean Hamrick is the beaming grandmother of 22-year-old Morgan Brian, a midfielder on the USA women’s team. Hamrick spent the day wearing one of Brian’s jerseys and looking at pictures of her now-famous granddaughter.
Brian is the youngest player on the national team. Hamrick says her granddaughter always dreamed about winning the World Cup. Now that it has become a reality, she is so proud of the USA team’s accomplishments and what her granddaughter has achieved.
“I’m very proud, very proud. She’s always been a good girl who has worked hard for where she is at and I am very proud for her,” said Hamrick.
Morgan Brian won three state championships in high school in Georgia and played four years at Virginia University. Brian was drafted by the Houston Dash pro soccer team.
