Local News

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — To keep in the spirit of this weekend’s Magic City Classic, Governor Kay Ivey is encouraging Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University  to compete in the classroom as well.

Wednesday, Ivey announced the creation of the new Alabama HBCU Co-Op Pilot program. The program is aimed at providing students with hands-on work experience in STEM fields with top companies across Alabama.

The governor’s office says this program is the first of its kind. Applications for the pilot program will be available in early 2019.
