Gov. Kay Ivey sworn in as Alabama’s 54th governor

MONTGOMERY, Ala (WIAT)– Monday, Governor Kay Ivey was sworn in as Alabama the 54th,  and second woman to hold the office. 

“I am truly humbled to lead this great state,” said Gov. Kay Ivey.

Ivey talked about the challenges this state faces as well as it’s successes.

“The Alabama we live in today and the Alabama we love today, has changed with the times, and in most cases it’s been for the better.”

Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth promised a new day in Alabama after taking the oath of office.

“Let us be know as the state that lead the US in job creation, economic development, because our citizens possess a work ethic second to none.”

An inauguration parade would be nothing without a marching band, and there 21 of them marching down Dexter Avenue.

Robin Mclendon from Springville was there to supporter the hometown band.

“We stayed and watched the whole parade, it was a lot of fun to watch them and Alabama and Auburn,” said Robin Mclendon.
