Fundraiser for local officers hurt while on duty

Local News

Birmingham, Ala.- Their job is to protect and serve. Now, two Birmingham police officers need your help. A fundraiser is planned for Friday, May 10  to help them with their mounting medical bill.

Officer Tekulve Bowden is recovering after he was struck by a car while assisting drivers who had wrecked on Interstate 59 in November of 2018. He has undergone 13 surgeries.

North precinct officer Lucas Allums was shot on Sunday, January 13. He was the second officer shot during a shooting where Sergeant Wytasha Cater died.  The 27-year-old has been recovering from his injuries since that shooting.

You can catch some of Birmingham Rock Bands playing all the classic hits during the fundraiser tomorrow. It will be held Workplay on 23rd Street South. Tickets are #18 at the door, $15 in advance. The money raised will go towards medical bills for both officers as well as an ADA accessible vehicle for Officer Tekulve.
