BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Former Vice President Joe Biden will speak Sunday at 16th Street Baptist Church on the 56th anniversary of the bombings there that killed four young girls.

Biden’s speech is part of a memorial service the church holds every year to remember the ones who died and the tragedy’s historic impact. Among the other special guests is Rev. Eric Manning of Mother Emmanuel A.M.E Church in Charleston, S.C. where nine people were killed during a bible study in 2015.

Church leaders on Sunday also will unveil renovations including a video wall that will show a new documentary about the church’s history. They’ve also added new doors to the sanctuary and protective glass to the stained-glass windows.

The memorial service begins Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
