Former correctional officer, 2 others charged with smuggling contraband into facilities

SPRINGVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) has charged a former correctional officer for using his position for financial gain following a two-year investigation.

Willie Gene McLemore, 36, is charged with receiving money in exchange for smuggling contraband inside the St. Clair Correctional Facility.

McLemore immediately resigned from his position following his arrest. He has been with ADOC since 2013.

In a separate incident on July 2, a man and a woman were arrested for trying to promote contraband at the Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton.

Jeannie Elizabeth Weaver, 23, and Shane Clover McKennon, 24, were arrested after surveillance footage shows the two trying to smuggle contraband through the prison fence. Both suspects were taken to Barbour County Jail and booked.
