Former Briarwood Presbyterian Church employee to be sentenced in Florida child porn case

Local News

LECANTO, Fla. (WIAT) — A former Florida church leader with ties to Birmingham could be headed to prison for up to 25 years after pleading no contest to 48 felony charges, including dozens of child pornography charges.

37-year-old Chad Robison was arrested in 2017 in Citrus County, Florida after investigators say they found hundreds of thousand of pornographic pictures and videos on his computer. Investigators told our fellow Nexstar station WFLA that Robison, at the time an employee of the Seven Rivers Presbyterian church in Lecanto, had child porn on his laptop computer.

Cops said a church co-worker stumbled on videos on Robison’s laptop, some of them showing him performing “virtual sex acts” with young girls, and even secretly recorded videos of girls using the restroom in his home.

“Everything that we teach in our schools and when we go out and do internet safety events, this is the type of predator that we warn kids about,” said Det. Chris Cornell.

Robison was a worship director at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, Florida last year when he was arrested. He was employed by the church from 2011 to 2017.

Robison’s former church issued a statement in 2017, saying, it had no knowledge or suspicion of improper conduct. It dismissed Robison on May 15, 2017 and banned him from the church campus.

According to Seven Rivers PC, Robison was previously employed at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Ala. for five years and attended Samford University.

Robison will be sentenced on August 20, 2018.

CBS 42 reached out to Briarwood for comment, but at time of publication, have not heard back.
