(WIAT) — UPDATE: Corporal Tony Dunn, with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, sent the following statement to WIAT 42 regarding the accident involving Altee Tenpenny:
On Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on US Highway 1 in Washington County. A 2008 Dodge Charger passenger car driven by Dashawnn Tenpenny, 20, from North Little Rock, Arkansas, was traveling Northbound when the vehicle ran off the left side of roadway striking a roadway sign. After impact, the vehicle continued down an embankment crossing over a county road. The vehicle overturned several times and collided with a utility pole ejecting the driver. Tenpenny was transported to Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS where he died of injuries sustained in the crash. The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Reports also indicate that he was not wearing a seat belt.
ORIGINAL: Former Alabama running back, Altee Tenpenny, was killed in a car accident overnight according to tweets from several of his former teammates, like Kenyan Drake and Reggie Ragland.
Tenpenny left Tuscaloosa in January and was a member of the Nicholls State Football team, but coach Tim Rebowe dismissed him on Tuesday, citing an arrest for possession of an illegal weapon on Sunday.
Tenpenny was the number one rated high school prospect from Arkansas in 2013.
