Former Alabama quarterback Andrew Zow named new Bessemer High football coach

(Bessemer, AL) – The Bessemer Board of Education is pleased to announce the hiring of former University of Alabama Quarterback Andrew Zow as the new Bessemer High School Football coach.

Zow held school records for passing yards, total yards and passing touchdowns. He was able to guide the Crimson Tide to an SEC Championship in 1999 and finished his career with 5,983 passing yards and 35 touchdowns.

“Our students deserve the very best. I have a lot of respect for the hard work, dedication and professionalism Andrew Zow has displayed throughout his career,” Superintendent Dr. Keith Stewart said.

Zow comes to Bessemer City High School with a resume that includes being Head Football coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Calera High School, Head Football, Track and Golf coach and Assistant Director at Montevallo High School, the Quarterback coach at Oak Mountain High School and he began his career as a Head Football and Track coach and Athletic Director at Union County High School. “I love helping young people on and off the field develop into great football players and great people,” Zow said.

His awards include:                                                                          

·         4A Coach of the Year  in 2015

·         Academic ALL SEC While attending University of Alabama

·         2001-Comeback Player of the Year: Presented by The Touchdown Club of Atlanta

·         Voted Permanent Captain at the University of Alabama
