COOK SPRINGS, Ala (WIAT) – The family of a shooting suspect in a double homicide is speaking out to tell the suspect’s side of the story.

41-year-old Kevin Wayne McCroey was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in the shooting death of 20-year-olds Hope Trapp and Logan Lambert. The shooting happened back in June at a walking track off Highway 78 in Cook Springs.

Terry McCrory is Kevin’s wife. She says her husband isn’t the monster the community has made him out to be.

“That’s my husband. He’ll take up from anybody. His family is everything to him. And he is everything to our family. I’ve been married to him for 21 years and he is not man that everyone is making him out to be.” said McCrory.

McCrory says the the altercation that happened before the shooting stemmed from strife between her daughter and Logan Lambert. She says it all started after her daughter filed for divorce from Lambert. According to McCrory her daughter met with Trapp at the walking track to fight. She says Lambert showed up despite the restraining order the family filed against him. McCrory says her daughter called her and asked for help. McCrory says their daughter was badly beaten when her husband arrived to the scene. McCrory says her husband shot Lambert and Trapp in defense of their daughter.

“We went down there and Kevin did defend his family. And that’s all he did was defend his daughter and defend his family.”  said McCrory.

McCrory says her husband did what he did in order to protect his family. McCrory describes her husband as a loving husband and father to their children. She says he would do anything for anyone.

McCrory says her family keeps the families of the victims in their prayers.

“Our family is so sorry that it happened. I know that there are three families, not just two that is grieving.” said McCrory.

Kevin McCrory is currently in the St. Clair County Jail awaiting trial. We continue to follow this case as it develops.
