BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for the Interstate 59/20 Bridge Replacement and interstate improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says more delays and closures are expected.

The latest closures to take place weather permitting as follows:
- The 25th Street on-ramp to I-59/20 NB and off-ramp from I-59/20 SB will have a shoulder closure Wednesday, May 15th from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for overhang installation.
- The 25th Street on-ramp to I-59/20 NB and off-ramp from I-59/20 SB will be closed Thursday, May 16th from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday to slip barrier rail overhead.
Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors.
This work is a part of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.
ALDOT officials say drivers are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
Drivers are reminded to continue to expect delays and drive with caution through the construction zone and always obey the posted speed limits.
