EUTAW, Ala. (WIAT) — A west Alabama city wants to improve its fire protection services. The city of Eutaw only has one fire engine truck and its 40 years old. Fire Chief Bennie Abrams and the mayor
both want a new fire truck to give the city two engines.
Mayor Raymond Steele says having another truck will help improve safety and the city’s insurance rating.
“It makes me very excited and anytime we can improve upon our infrastructure whether its a new fire engine or water or whatever. All this makes Eutaw stronger” Steele said.
Tuesday night the city council and mayor voted to get the process underway. The city will apply for a state block community development grant for $ 350,000 dollars. The city will have to contribute $ 70,000. Fire chief Bennie Abrams says it’s about time.
“The truck we have is a 1978 model and it has seen better days. And its time to upgrade and replace.
So I am appreciative of the mayor and council seeking this grant” Abrams said. Next Tuesday the Mayor and City council will meet with a grant writer to get the ball rolling.
