BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Spring break has arrived and if you are looking for something to do with your family, you may want to head north.

Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is home to the world’s fastest wooden roller-coaster, The Lightning Rod.

Park representative Amber Davis joined the CBS42 Morning News to talk about the new addition.

“It is really something coaster enthusiasts are chomping at the bit to get on,” said Davis. It’s really neat because you think wooden coaster you think of the jerking this is actually something of a hybrid coaster because it is wooden frame but it is going to be smooth. It is going to be such a smooth ride.”

The coaster takes you up a lift and then launches riders at 45 miles per hour, and then by the time riders hit the 160 foot drop, the coaster maxes out at 73 miles per hour.

The park also features the Jukebox Junction complete with hot rods, 50’s music and a drive in with burgers and fries.

The Lightning Rod is not the only feature you will find at Dollywood this year. The Festival of nations is currently underway. It is an international celebration of music, entertainment and food.

And you can’t go to Dollywood without thinking about a Dolly sighting. Amber said the famous singer visits the park at least twice a year. She is expected to make a visit in early May.
