Deputy: Suspect died after he was apprehended

BIBB COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A 30-year-old man died after Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended him Friday evening.

According to Deputy Kevin Lawrence, the man went into cardiac arrest while in custody. The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. while deputies were patrolling an area of Highway 219. They came across a broken down vehicle, and when they tried to assist the driver, a passenger in the vehicle ran. Deputies chased him and after a scuffle, put him in handcuffs.

Lawrence said the man went into cardiac arrest. Deputies called an ambulance, which took the man to Bibb County Medical Center where he died. His body will be sent to the Department of Forensic Science, and the Bibb County Coroner will continue the investigation.

The name of the suspect has not been released yet. Lawrence said the deceased had felony warrants with Tuscaloosa County.
