Cyclist struck and killed in Jefferson County identified; case under investigation

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in Monday night’s fatal cyclist accident.

The victim has been identified to be 30-year-old Kimberly Sierra Holcomb of the Robinwood Community.

The coroner’s office reports that at 10:36 p.m. Monday, Holcomb was riding a bicycle with another person in the 2800 block of Pinson Valley Parkway.

Holcomb was crossing traffic on the parkway and was struck by a pickup truck traveling north.

The pickup truck driver stopped and called the cops.

Holcomb was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m.

It happened around 10:55 Monday night on the 2800 block of Highway 79 near Tarrant. Investigators say the cyclist was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the northbound lanes of Highway 79.

The driver of the truck remained on the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
