TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Hugh Culverhouse Jr. took out an ad in the Wall Street Journal Tuesday to display his thoughts on the 4th of July celebrations in Alabama as well as the statewide abortion ban.
The ad starts of by saying in big bold letters: “When we sing ‘God Bless America’ on the Fourth, in Alabama, some will whistle ‘Dixie.'”
Culverhouse goes on to talk about his love for Alabama and his roots in the state. He then goes on to discuss the abortion ban signed by Gov. Kay Ivey in May.
“I cherish my memories of Alabama and hope that it comes to its senses,” the ad read. “Parents should not send their children to any school, university or college in Alabama.”
The University of Alabama cut ties with Culverhouse in June and returned a $21.5 million donation and removed Culverhouse’s name from their law school building after he came out against the ban.
Culverhouse ended the ad with: “On the 4th of July, let’s sing ‘God Bless America,’ not whistle ‘Dixie.'”
