BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Commission has named Laura Hurst as the Deputy Director of Cooper Green Mercy Health Services.
Tuesday, Cooper Green Director Amerika Berkeley turned in her resignations to the county. Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos issued a statement today expressing his disappointment in receiving Berkeley’s resignation.
“However, we have hired a new Deputy Director for Cooper Green, Laura Hurst, and she will be starting on July 8,” a statement read.
Operations of Cooper Green Mercy Health Services will now be controlled under the recently established UAB University Healthcare Authority. The authority would now have oversight of the indigent care funds used to operate Cooper Green Mercy.
The UAB University Healthcare Authority would have a seven member board made up of three Jefferson County appointees and four appointees from UAB.
