HUEYTOWN, Ala (WIAT)— A Hueytown woman received an unexpected surprise in the mail.

A few weeks prior, Andrea Speer lost her wedding ring. Speer’s step-daughter, Brittany Scoggins, says they spent weeks looking for the ring.

They checked the local Dollar General. They retraced their steps for days. No luck.

The family was in the process of ordering a new ring when Kenneth Speer checked the mail.

A letter from Carhartt came in saying:

“Andrea, The Returns Dept found this ring in a pair of jeans you returned. The Dept wanted to make sure you received it back.”

The ring was inside the package.

Scoggins says the ring had fallen off while her stepmother was boxing up a pair of jeans to return. Scoggins posted about the act of kindness on Facebook.

In the post she says:

“It’s amazing someone we don’t even know went through the trouble to make sure she received her [stepmother] ring,” Scoggins said.

Angie Payne, the Administrative Manager for Carhartt says the company’s motto is “do the right thing”.

“I was so proud to hear that they did get it and that it did mean something,” Payne said. “That meant a lot to us, too.”

Scoggins said the family found the worker on Facebook and personally thanked the company.

“When we got the ring back, it was just a load of emotions, everyone cried of course,” Scoggins said, “And when we got it back, it was just a sigh of relief that we have it back and there are still great people in this world.”
