BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A local group is offering students a fantastic voyage into Alabama’s history.
Community First Birmingham is sending Birmingham-area children to Montgomery to follow in the footsteps of civil rights activists. The trip will include a visit to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and Legacy Museum, as well as a trip to the Alabama State Capitol.
Three buses will head to Montgomery on May 4. Anyone ages 10-17 can go, and the trip is free.
Jude Washington of Community First said, “what we’re seeing on these streets of Birmingham right now we see a lot of kids, it’s terrible, they’re destroying each so we feel that if they understand what happened in the past, then they can be able to secure a better future. ”
