CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) — A Clanton woman survived Thursday nights EF-1 tornado that hit Chilton County. The powerful storm passed right over her house.
Mary Price is counting her blessings, the storm hit her neighborhood near County Road 55 around
eight Thursday night. She heard a loud noise and quickly ran to her bathroom and jumped into
her tub to seek shelter.
“When the power went off and then I heard a roaring sound and it started raining real hard and that scared me so I ran to the bathroom” Price said.
A large tree fell on top of her house splitting the home in half. After the storm ended Price realized she was trapped. First responders including sheriffs deputies, police and firefighters and many others came to her rescue.
“I am very grateful, I had a neighbor come up and get me out before the police and rescue folks got here. I am grateful they stay here with us and made sure we were okay Very grateful”.
Price was home alone when the storm hit, her husband and son were not home. She says that’s another reason why she is thankful.
“All I can say is thank God because God protected me. I am happy, I am blessed and alive everything in there can be replaced. Just thankful nobody was hurt and I am alive”.
The Price family is staying with relatives until they can find a new place to live.
