BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — In Bessemer, a public hearing is now scheduled for a new pedestrian bridge project.
The proposed bridge would be between Berkley Avenue and Clarendon Avenue. Bessemer Police Chief Mike Roper tells CBS 42 this is a high traffic area.
City Councilor Latricia Crusoe says the bridge is much needed so that community members won’t have to cross the busy highway.
Crusoe said, “We have a pedestrian bridge that gives the citizens of Bessemer safer access to our recreation center whereby the kids also the seniors. We have a senior facility a few blocks away. It gives them access to be able to come over without the worries of having to cross a major highway.”
