COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (x4):  The car of a missing Shelby County teenager was discovered Saturday morning in a densely wooded area off County Road 315 in unincorporated Shelby County. Authorities also discovered a body nearby.

In a statement released late Saturday afternoon, Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego said the positive identification of the body, and the cause of death, are pending review by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

He added, “This afternoon, I met with Haleigh’s parents. I ask that you join me in lifting up the Green family during this difficult time.”

Haleigh’s mother, Shevelle Bivins, told WIAT42 News Saturday she prayed for the best, but always feared this was a possibility.
