CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Calhoun County sheriff’s office is investigating after a man shot and killed a 6-month-old child and its maternal grandfather, before shooting and killing himself in the 2000 block of Kirkseys Bend in Ohatchee.

Sheriff Matthew Wade said the suspect, 23-year-old Trenton Gorden, shot the child’s maternal grandfather. He then proceeded to run to the end of the road and shoot the child in the head.

Deputies arrived on the scene and attempted to perform CPR on the child, but it died as a result of its injuries. The grandfather was transported to a hospital in Birmingham. His condition is unknown.

Gorden was registered as a sex offender, and the mother had a protection from abuse order against him.

This investigation is still ongoing.
