Calera High School with high police presence in response to threat

CALERA, Ala. (WIAT) — The Calera Police Department received information about a threat to shoot up Calera High School that would take place at noon today. The initial message was sent via an anonymous text to a student. The message was then posted to social media. The information was investigated throughout the night and involved FBI assistance.  The Calera police has made contact with those involved in circulating the text. 

The police do not believe that this is a credible threat, but will maintain an increased presence at the schools while the investigation continues. 

Shelby County Schools in an official statement stated that they became aware of the text message and social media threat late Wednesday night. The Calera High School continues to work with the various law enforcement agencies to ensure student safety.
