TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT)-Alabama football fans can expect to see more security in place when the season gets underway at Bryant-Denny stadium. Monday the board of trustee's approved a deal to purchase metal detectors.
Ralph Clayton says 180 metal detectors will be used at every gate starting in September. Clayton is the Alabama Assistant
Vice president for public safety. He believes using the devices will help with security.
"Its a good thing, anytime you can provide security for your fans its a good thing. The University has purchased a large number of detectors in order to provide quicker walk through lines".
Shannon Mikesky is an Alabama football fan and a graduate student who supports the additional security upgrades. Her Boyfriend is a player on the crimson tide Football team.
"With such a big gathering of people at one time even if it takes longer to get everyone inside I think its a great move to make it for safety reasons" Mikesky said.
Metal detectors were used last football season at a home game against Mercer University as a trial run. The equipment will cost $982,000 dollars. The SEC wants to have metal detectors at every stadium in the league by 2020.
