Blue Bell adds billionaire investor

Local News

(WIAT) — Blue Bell Creamery is adding a new investor to its family-owned business.

It’s part of efforts to save the company, after being forced to shut down and pull its ice cream from store freezers after a deadly listeria contamination.

Three people died in Kansas from the outbreak.

Now, 73-year-old billionaire Sid Bass is stepping in.

There’s no word when Blue Bell will re-open.

The company will start test production in its Sylacauga plant in the next few weeks.
