Birmingham Zoo to host 1st World Animal Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Zoo will host their first ever World Animal Weekend June 1-2.

During this two-day event, the zoo will be highlighting animals and environments from all around the world. 

Visitors will get the chance to hear special chats with zookeepers, see wildlife shows as well as learn ways to help preserve the environment in their own backyard.

The event includes:

  • 9:30 a.m.- Elephant Talk & Feeding, Goat Walk
  • 10 a.m.- Bear Talk, Elephant Talk & Feeding, Sea Lion Show
  • 10:30 a.m.-Elephant Talk & Feeding, Fox Talk, Kori Bustard Talk, Pallas’ Cat Talk
  • 11 a.m.- Elephant Talk & Feeding, Snake Talk & Feeding, Wildlife Show
  • 11:30 a.m.- Predator Zone Training Demo, Red River Hog Talk
  • 12 p.m.- Flamingo Talk, Jaguar Talk, Orangutan Talk
  • 12:30 p.m.- Cassowary Talk, Bear Talk
  • 1 p.m.- Hippopotamus Talk, Southern Ground Hornbill Talk, Southern Ground Hornbill Habitat, Birds
  • 1:30 p.m.- Anaconda Talk (Saturday only), Elephant Talk, Gibbon Talk
  • 2 p.m.- Butterfly Talk, Duiker Talk, Sea Lion Show
  • 2:30 p.m.- Animal Greeting, Guinea Forest Hog Talk
  • 3 p.m.- Predator Zone Training Demo
