Birmingham activist's church burglarized two nights in a row

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) - - Birmingham police are investigating after Jesus Real Ministry Church  was burglarized Monday and Tuesday night this week. The church is off Snavely Ave in the Powderly neighborhood.

Apostle Wanda Stephen is the pastor of the church. Wanda Stephens is the founder of the Mothers Who Want The Violence to Stop Organization. The organization stands against violence in the community. Stephen founded the group after her son George Powell, Jr. was shot and killed twelve years ago.

Stephen says music equipment like a guitar, microphones, and speakers were stolen. She says a window air conditioning unit, and the bathroom fan was also stolen.

"This a small church. Small congregation. And God knows I don't have the money to buy none of the air conditioning. I don't have the money to buy no more equipment for my church. No mice no sound system. I don't have the money." said Wanda Stephen

The thieve or thieves busted in a window to get into the church. Jesus Real Ministry is a small congregation and Stephen says she doesn't know how she can afford to replace everything that was stolen if it is not recovered. She is asking the community for help. Stephen has a message for whoever's responsible for the crime.

"God bless his soul. Save his soul because he's going in God's house. And he's taking stuff from God's house. Not only coming in but tearing the house up. That's not right. It's nothing but the devil. I know that God is in control. And I pray that they get him. And lock him up for a very long time." said Stephen

If you know anything about this case you're asked to call Birmingham Police at (205) 328-9311.
