Crews find body of missing fisherman in Cosby Lake

PINSON, Ala. (WIAT) — Update 3:50 p.m.- Crews have located the body of the fisherman who went missing in Cosby Lake. The victim has not been identified at this time. Authorities are still on the scene. More updates to follow.

Update (6:50 a.m.): According to the Center Point Fire Department, the missing man has been identified as 36-year-old Russell “Rambo” Patterson. He is a veteran and served 3 tours overseas and is an army ranger.


Captain David Agee with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a kayak was found overturned at the scene. The search is now being concentrated on the water.


Original story: The Center Point Fire Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a missing person in a lake in Clay Tuesday night.

Emergency crews are searching in and around Cosby Lake on Old Springville Road.

According to Captain David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, the missing man went to go fishing. He was last seen around 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Concerned family members came to the scene when they did not hear from him and found his truck and his overturned kayak.

The Center Point Fire Department are working to locate the man.
