BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Automaker Aston Martin will announce where it plans to locate a new plant at the end of the third quarter. A representative at Aston Martin Americas confirmed that the announcement will come at the end of September.
“We are hopeful that we can add another automotive group to this entire region to continue to grow in the automotive role,” said Birmingham Mayor William Bell.
He also told WIAT 42 News that Birmingham has responded to the state with information that they have requested.
Earlier this year Aston Martin C.E.O. Andy Palmer is quoted in other media outlets as saying Alabama is an obvious choice.
According to AL.GOV, 994,000 vehicles where produced in Alabama in 2014. The site said automobiles are Alabama’s number 1 export. Four Automotive companies have operations in Alabama: Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and Mercedes Benz.
WIAT did seek comment from Governor Robert Bentley for this story and Alabama’s Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield. Secretary Canfield’s office told us he had no comment about Aston Martin.
